This past weekend, four students from Smithtown High School East performed in the Long Island String Chamber Festival (LISFA) at Islip Middle School. This is the second time students from Smithtown have been selected for this Festival since it originated 14 years ago.
The High School East String Quartet is composed of junior, Juliet Chong (violin 1), junior, Shaayan Alam (violin 2), senior, Rabia Chattha (viola) and senior Nina Hughes (cello). They performed the Minuet from the Quartet in D Minor by Joseph Haydn.
All four of these accomplished musicians of the Symphonic Orchestra are under the direction of Mr. Brian McCoy. Juliet was also featured as a soloist in Smithtown High School East’s annual Gala concert performing the Violin Concerto in G minor mvt III by Max Bruch.
These students had the opportunity to attend master classes throughout the day at this festival and work with the Bryant Park Chamber Players. LISFA hosts festivals throughout the year in Suffolk and Nassau counties. The organization brings together Long Island string teachers, students, parents and conductors to support and celebrate the joy of music.
